Aims and Objectivs

The Library of the Foundation «A Lord» was inaugurated on December 2, 2000, by the Minister of Education, Dr. Augusto Santos Silva. Its objective it to promote books and reading, to supply up-to-date information to its users, provide a cultural stimulus to the population of Lordelo, which has population of 13 000, and to extend its activity to the inhabitants of the neighbouring boroughs.

With this end in mind, a number of very diverse activities have been promoted with the intention of attracting a wide variety of users to the Library, specifically children and young people. Its cultural bearing is directed towards the research, study and dissemination of local history, heritage and ethnography, with a view to consolidating the identity of the young city of Lordelo, of its population in general and further to make people aware of the need for information and the acquisition of knowledge.

It enjoys a very close relationship with local teaching establishments, as well as those of neighbouring boroughs, and various institutions of a cultural nature.

It is endowed with a collection of about 15.000 titles, 1.500 in audiovisual format, 35 newspaper subscriptions and also a multimedia library.
