Aims and Objectivs

The « A LORD» Foundation was born in the heart of the «Cooperativa de Electrificação A LORD» as a result of the need to usefully apply the surpluses obtained with the distribution of electrical energy to the parish of Lordelo in the interests of the area where it is located.

It was constituted on December 5th, 1996 (Diário da República. III series, no. 298, 26-12-1996) and confirmed by dispatch of the Ministério da Administração Interna, on May 16th, 1998 (Diário da República. II series, no. 138, of 18-6-1998). Later, by the dispatch of September 24th, 2001 (Diário da República. II series, no. 238, 13-10-2001) the status of Public Service (Utilidade Pública) was conferred on it).

During the intervening period it has created a solid structure, with the objective of contributing to the socio-cultural development of the local population, and with this objective three departments have been organised to fulfil these aims: Social Action, Library service and Musical Education.

Today the Foundation is self-sustaining and is solidly implanted in the area in which it was created.
